Yemenia Airways

• Yemenia Airways passed the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) benchmark for global safety management
• This is the first fatal accident involving a plane operated by Yemenia Airways since 1978 when the airline was established under its current name
• Yemenia Airways' predecessor Yemen Airways suffered three fatal accidents in 1958, 1969, 1971. Alyemda, which merged with Yemenia suffered two fatal accidents in 1977 and 1982.

Airbus A310

• This is the eighth Airbus A310 damaged beyond repair in an accident, seven of which were fatal accidents.
• If there is just one survivor, this accident is the second worst accident involving an A310

Accidents with one survivor
News reports state that one passenger, a toddler, survived the accident. If this passenger is the *only* survivor, the Yemenia accident will be the second worst accident with one surviving occupant. In the Northwest Airlines accident in 1987 the only survivor was a 4-year-old female child. List of aircraft accidents with at least 30 fatalities were one occupant survived the crash.
