Mustang I AP212 268 Squadron Shot down by flak near Petten, Alkmaar, Holland. Pilot bailed out. Pilot was F/Lt R Anthony Bethell 120413 (born 9-Apr-22). Flt Lt Bethell took part in the famous "Great Escape" from the Stalag Luft III POW camp at Sagan on March 24/25 1944.

However, he was recaptured, and returned to Stalag Luft III. Flt Lt Bethell survived the war, remained in RAF service until 1955, and died on February 17 2004, aged 82 in Toronto, Canada.
