El vuelo AR 1896 despegó de El Calafate con rumbo directo a Buenos Aires, con 93 pasajeros y 5 tripulantes. A los aproximadamente 30 min de vuelo, sufrió una falla eléctrica casi total, que dejó al avión sin ningún tipo de instrumental operable. Se declaró la emergencia y regresó al aeropuerto de El Calafate, aterrizando en forma visual sin novedad unos 45 min más tarde. En el incidente fueron alertadas y movilizadas todos las fuerzas de emergencia: Policía, Gendarmería, Defensa Civil, Hospital, etc. las que afortunadamente no fueron utilizadas.
