Narrative:At 22:38 hours a male passenger commandeered United flight 739 to return to Portland Airport, Oregon. He held a package which he claimed was a bomb. The aircraft had departed Portland at 21:00 for Los Angeles, California. An refueling stop was made at San Francisco before the flight continued back to Portland, where it landed at 01:13. He released the passengers and most of the crew after landing.
About an hour later, the hijacker surrendered.
