Descripción:
A Boeing 737-322 operating flight GMT779 from Cancún suffered a landing gear collapsed after landing at Mexico City-Benito Juárez International Airport (MEX).
The aircraft was 10 nautical miles out when the crew requested a visual approach for a landing on runway 05L. Wind was reported as variable 130-160 degrees. The flight was subsequently cleared for their requested approach.
After touchdown the aircraft experienced a strong vibration, after which the left-hand main landing gear collapsed.

"Fractura del pistón del shimmy damper y posterior retracción del conjunto de la pierna izquierda del tren de aterrizaje debido a vibraciones causadas durante la carrera de aterrizaje, que no pudieron ser amortiguadas debido al desgaste y juego existente entre las partes dinámicas de los links, herrajes y junta apex del shimmy damper"

FACTORES CONTRIBUYENTES:
- Aproximación no estabilizada
- Servicio inadecuado al shimmy damper y al shock strut
- Aterrizaje con un régimen de descenso bajo
- Desgaste en la junta Apex debido a un juego entre este y el lower torsión link
- Aterrizaje con una velocidad (ground speed) alta y un régimen de descenso bajo
