Took off from RAF Pocklington at 20:57.
Hit by flak whilst outbound which damaged the port outer engine. Between 00:36 & 01:00 considerable misfiring was experienced. It was decided to abandon the aircraft and it crashed at Rambrouch 18km WSW of Ettelbruck.
Sgt Whitfield died of natural causes in captivity on 5 March 1945.
Sgt Heap & Sgt Griffiths were awarded the DFM for their actions. Gazetted on 5 February 1943.
