Stored at Weston-super-Mare Airport from 4.9.39, when all private civilian flying was prohibited due to the outbreak of WW II.

Civil registration G-AFSU cancelled 12.2.40 when impressed into military service as W7970; taken on charge at 20 MU RAF Aston Down, Minichinhampton, Gloucestershire 12.4.40. Major inspection at Southern Aircraft, Gatwick Airport, Horely, Surrey 17.2.41. To 7 EFTS RAF Desford, Leicestershire 25.8.41.
