A BRM Aero Bristell NG5 Speed Wing, built by J. C. Simpson, crashed in Belan, near Moone, Kildare County. It took off from Kildare Aerodrome (EIKH) for a local flight around 19:30. After it failed to return a search was carried out and the wreckage was located Friday at 04:30 by an Irish Coast Guard SAR helicopter. Both occupants died in the crash.
The Irish Accident Investigation Unit ascertained from recovered on board data, that the occupants were carrying out a slow flight exercise at approx. 3,000 ft, when the aircraft entered a flat spin and fell to the ground. The investigation is on going.
