The Plane was passing a low level flight-corridor over the Westerwald area. German air-security experts assume, that a technical Error occured during the flight, that was not reported to groumd control. Several eyewitnesses saw the plane crashing, but gave different testimonies. Some Said, they saw the plane spinning, while others maintained, the plane turned over the wings in straight forward flight. The plane exploded on the ground and consequently wreckage was dispersed in an arean of 700 by 400 meters. Some parts of the plane including the engines fell into the close Hausweiher-lake. Police and units of the German armed forces secured the area immideatly. Some eye witnesses believed, that the Pilot intentionally crashed the plane into the field to avoid civil fatalities in the closely located village of Steinen and at the camping ground next to the Hausweiher. Fishermen at the Hausweiher-lake reported, that the pilot managed to eject, but the parachute didn't open in time. The pilot's dead corpse was found on the shore of the Lake.
