Narrative:Crashed. Following a 7-hour training flight, the pilot mistakenly approached the incorrect runway for a landing. Realizing his mistake, he did a go-around to align with the correct runway, but in this attempt, collided with a small ridge and crashed, killing four of the six occupants.
Killed were:
1st Lt. Charles F. Hosford, O-423936, PA, Pilot
2nd Lt. Duane T. Crosthwaite, O-437441, MI, Co-Pilot
Pvt. Harold L. Gilliam, 39380497, WA, Gunner
Pvt. Arthur L. Schipper, 37048211, IA, Gunner
Fatigue was the most likely contributing factor. The flight engineer and radio operator survived, but with serious injuries.
